Establishment
The nuclear energy related safety administrations formerly operated by Science and Technology Agency and the Agency of National Resources and Energy have been transferred to and industrial safety administration previously directed by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry administrations being centralized and strengthened under NISA.
Nuclear Safety Administration
Previously, the Science and Technology Agency directed the nuclear power safety administration dealing with the nuclear fuel cycle and research and development reactors. Duties included the production of fuel for power generation, the reprocessing of spent fuel, and the disposal of radioactive waste. These responsibilities have now been transferred to NISA.
NISA, which is responsible for the administration of nuclear safety issues, is separated from the function of promoting locations for nuclear power installations of the Electricity and Gas Industry Department of the Agency of National Resources and Energy.
Industrial Safety Administration
The safety administration of the Environmental Protection and Industrial Location Bureau explosives, high-pressure gas, petroleum industrial complexes, liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and mines, formerly administered by the Agency of National Resources and Energy, which had managed electrical power, utility gas and heat supply, have been combined under NISA.
We combine our experiences in various fields and make use of them in safety administration.
We maintain the independence of the organization gov-erning safety administrations and clarify our mission and responsibilities.
